Revelation 3:14-22

Session 7

Revelation 3:14-16

What Does Jesus have to say to a Complacent Church?

Jesus is saying, “I want you to see your need.”

What does Jesus say has to happen to deal with the complacency in our lives?

1.  You have to see the shocking truth about _________________________

I see myself in light of who God is, what Jesus says about Himself.

Jesus says, “I am the Amen.”

Amen—“so be it” or “let it be”

Jesus says, “I am the faithful and true witness”

He is worthy of my _____________________

Jesus says, “I am the ruler of God’s creation”

He is worthy of my ________________________

And I have to have the __________________________to listen to what He has to say.

Background: Two cities near Laodicea had water in them. Hierapolis had a famous hot springs. Colossae was known for its pure and cold water.

Jesus is saying, “You have become lukewarm to the ________________________ of God.

It is hard to hear Jesus saying because of ___________________  _______________________in our culture.

What does it mean to be lukewarm?

Three reactions of a lukewarm heart towards God

  1. I hope what I have will ______________________ the rest of my life...

  2. I think I can be __________________________ in my spiritual life once in a while and that will be enough...

  3. The only way to keep my love for Christ hot is to keep continually __________________________ to Him.

Key: yourself, trust, worship, courage, purpose, political correctness, last, active, connected

Revelation 3:17-22

What Jesus has to say about a complacent church and a complacent life.

2.  I have to ______________________ my desperate need.

The more self-sufficient we are, the more we fail to recognize our deep need of Him.

How do I regain a passion for God?

I __________________________ that I am desperately in need of Him

I __________________________ my desperate need of Him

3.  I go to Jesus __________________________ to meet my deepest needs.

  • Where do you get your sense of worth?

  • How do you deal with shame?

  • Where do you get your world view?

Jesus offers:

“Gold refined by fire”—______________________ (referred to many times in Scripture)

“White clothes to cover your nakedness”—____________________________ to cover the shame of our sin

“Salve to put on your eyes so that you can see”—The kind of __________________________that only God can give, to see life as it really is.

4.  Our response is as a deeply loved __________________________ of God

Our response to Jesus is as a child being disciplined and rebuked rather than as a stranger being __________________________.

5.  C__________________________ open the door to Jesus

Revelation 3:20, often is referred to someone who is becoming a brand new believer, but this verse is to someone who has been a believer for a long time and has become __________________________ in their faith.

Key: admit, realize, admit, alone, faith, Grace, Wisdom, child, punished, Continually, complacent
